Home for the Holidays

Looking Beyond Our Good Fortune

As we begin to plan for warm gatherings with our loved ones, we're reminded of our neighbours who are struggling to keep a roof over their heads. We've been watching with deep concern as the housing market has been leaving so many people without a home.

CityMatch is dedicated to doing what we can to support frontline organizations in providing affordable housing, supports, and a sense of belonging for our city's vulnerable.

One small part of that effort is our annual donation to organizations  who are working to address the urgent and ongoing housing issues in London.

We’re excited to announce that CityMatch is donating 10% of our 2021 net profits to…

…the people of Indwell.

For their ongoing work at Woodfield Gate Apartments and their new development at Embassy Commons, with its 72 new homes for Londoners grappling with housing availability and affordability.

We invite you to learn about Indwell and how they are helping their tenants achieve health, wellness, and belonging - along with a fresh start and the chance to build a stable home.

Our Deepest Gratitude.

These ongoing donations are only possible with the support of our corporate, domestic, and international relocation clients. Thank you all for your ongoing trust.

We're just one small company and we hope that all of you reading this today will consider supporting Indwell or one of the dedicated organizations working to end this crisis of attainable and affordable housing.

May the year ahead welcome you and your loved-ones with open arms and a warm heart.

On behalf of the whole CityMatch team, Marla, Ronny, Tracey, and Shawn, I wish you a peaceful, healthy and happy holiday season.

Getting Serious About Attainable Housing

How we got here and what’s being done about it. Sorry, we’re going to get a little heavy here but we hope you will read on because there are people here that fill us with hope for the future, too.

One Thing Didn’t Get Us Here…

This crisis has been building for a long time and the reasons are many, but causes are also less complicated than you might think. Mike Moffatt, an economist who has been studying the situation for some time, has done a better job than most at putting things into perspective.

…And One Thing Won’t Fix It.

In some ways the answer to the housing crisis seems obvious: just build more housing. We need a massive effort, bringing different levels of government together with private developers to get this done. Fortunately, Canada has world-class researchers who are working to make sure that we’re listening to the people who are impacted and building strategies to move us forward.

“Look for the Helpers. You can always find people who are helping.” - Fred Rogers

London is filled with great people and organizations who are working tirelessly to address this deepening crisis. In addition to the good people at Indwell, organizations like Youth Opportunities Unlimited, Atlohsa, and London Community Foundation need your support in addressing the ongoing emergency and who are working towards a future where none of our fellow Londoners are left without a home.

Beacons of Hope

“Together, we will make a big dent in London’s affordable and market housing needs.”
Jeff Neven, Indwell Executive Director

As dire as the situation is, there are positive developments. London’s City Council plans to create 3,000 new affordable homes by 2026 and in February 2021, an alliance of organizations came together to start working on 600 units of affordable housing on the grounds of the old Victoria Hospital in SoHo.

We Can All Make a Difference.

Big issues like this are tough to wrap our minds around and it’s perfectly natural to question just what difference can one person make. The choice to invest (or not invest) in affordable housing is, and has always been, a political choice. Regardless of your political affiliation, each one of us has a role to play in ensuring that all levels of government understand that this needs to be an ongoing priority. We must continue to build new affordable units and, just as importantly, make investments to maintain our existing units.

We encourage everyone to learn more about this critically important issue, to understand the different ways that more attainable housing can be brought to the market, and when you should use your voice to support better decisions by our elected politicians.

We all have the right to a safe and affordable place to live.
